Start your day on the right foot with this invigorating tropical detox juice. With its combination of healthy vibrant fruits, this juice is loaded with essential nutrients and will be sure to have you jumping out of bed with a natural burst of energy and keep you going all day!
After some dreary December days here in London, the sun finally decided to grace us with its presence – albeit only for a few hours.
Seeing the sun shine when opening my blinds, I was inspired to start my day off with a drink that would match the energy of the sun.
Enter this tropical detox juice.
It only took 5 minutes from the thought popping into my mind to having the drink in my hand! That’s the best part of juices: easy and quick to make and great for cleansing the body and aiding your digestive system.
It is also important to remember the type of nutrition your body needs when training. You should be aiming to get wholesome and nourishing foods in before and after training.
Contrary to popular belief, it is not just protein you need to focus on – and this juice has certain other benefits for the body when training.
This juice can provide you with a boost of energy before your workout to get you pushing harder for longer. Post-workout, it is also a great way to replace vital electrolytes, which are constantly lost in sweat when working out.
It also helps in reducing the recovery time between workouts and cleansing the liver so it can function more efficiently and assist with burning calories when working out.
How do you make this detox juice?
You won’t need any exotic ingredients to make this juice. In fact, you may have all that you need already in your kitchen!
The main ingredients in this juice are frozen bananas, mangoes and pineapple.
The mangoes and pineapple will give the juice its amazing tropical sweetness, while the banana will perfectly balance those flavors out and give the juice a superbly smooth texture. Almost smoothie like, but without the milk!
Next we’ll add in lemon and ginger. Not only will this give the juice greater detox and anti-inflammatory properties, but it will also provide a surprisingly delicious zest with each sip.
Lastly to boost the nutritional profile of this juice, we’ll also add in flaxseeds and chia seeds. They blend in the juice silently and gives the juice almost 90% of the RDI of Omega 3 fatty acids! For such low-cost items, it’s a no brainer to include.
Detox Juice Substitution Tips
This combination of ingredients are my favourite to attain that sweet tropical taste whilst maintaining the healthy benefits.
However there are other types of tropical fruits which you can use to substitute for the mango or pineapples. Whether you prefer the taste of these fruits, or you simply have them in your kitchen and need a reason to use them up – then give these a try!
- Papaya: A popular tropical fruit from South America which has an insatiably sweet taste and pops with its vibrant color.
- Passionfruit: Rich in antioxidants and provides the juice with a fresh, sweet and tarty taste.
- Coconut (fresh or as coconut water): A great addition to this recipe if you are looking to balance out the sweetness of the other fruits and give you an electrolyte boost!
